I love weekends and look forward to my weekends all week-long. Weekend mornings are spent lazily watching TV with tea in bed and then exploring Tokyo in the afternoons and trying out new restaurants in the evenings. I want my weekends to last forever! And I guess that you want the same, and that is the reason why you are here! So here are five ways which you can try to bridge the gap between your weekend and weekday by bringing more fun and excitement during the work week:

1. Get up 15-30 minutes earlier than your normal time. Relax with a cup of tea or coffee in bed and read a book or maybe a newspaper. Or in my case I like to watch some Netfix in the morning (only if you are addicted to Netflix like me). This will be such a big change from those fast and hurried mornings when you don’t even have time to eat breakfast!

2. Change your morning routine. You can try a new cafe near your office and get a quick breakfast or coffee there, rather than eating a granola bar and coffee at your desk. Or try a new class in the evening. It can be a new workout class such as yoga or pilates, a cooking class or a dance class, the options are endless. You can do them alone and make some new friends or just join a class with your old friends to meet them more often.

3. My favorite tip is to wear a new clothing item or just an amazing outfit to work. Put on something stylish, spend some extra minutes on your hair and makeup, and you will feel like a movie star (Never mind the crowded Tokyo trains).

4. Make plans after work that you can look forward to. Drinks with colleagues or dinner with friends or just a fun night out mid-week with your girl gang will let you disconnect from your typical weekly routine. I have been doing this for many years and I think it is a good way to have some fun on a week night. A word of caution though, if you schedule too many outings, you might start dreading going out on a work night!

5. A spa day is a wonderful way to pamper and relax yourself while preparing for the next day. Light a candle, put on a face mask, pour yourself a glass of wine, turn on some soothing music or get a book or magazine with you into a bubble bath. I have started doing that recently and it is something I look forward to during work nights.

Lastly, I just wanted to add that weekdays are never going to be quite as fun as your time away from office, but making these small changes in your life will help you survive the week. If you ever try any of these tips, do share it with me. Until then, have a good week!
