Last weekend we went to Kitano in Kobe which is famous for its former mansions known as Ijinkan where foreign merchants and diplomats settled after the Port of Kobe was opened to foreign trade in the later half of nineteenth century. Most of the houses have been converted into museums and opened to public. The area has an European feel with loads of quirky cafes and gift shops, ideal for an evening stroll. We saw almost all the houses, a shrine there, had coffee in a cute cafe and accidentally came across a shop selling Indian grocery items, very uncommon in Japan. After shopping to my heart’s content we came back to Osaka and finished the day with Japanese style steak and tomato salad at a restaurant in Takashimaya near our place. Now that is what I call a perfect day!!
