Tokyo is a great city to live in – tons of activities to do, sight-seeing spots, restaurants, bars, and clubs – and is extremely convenient. But it comes with the negatives of any other big city – polluted air, daily bacteria-filled commutes, late nights, and stress that can lead to our skin not looking so youthful and cause premature aging.

Pollutants are up to 30 times smaller than our pores and they penetrate the skin and damage its DNA, causing aging. On top of that, polluted air contains 224 chemicals that damage the skin. That is why people who live in the city have more age spots, deeper skin creases, and more wrinkles compared to those who live in the countryside.

Pollution could age the appearance of women’s skin negatively 10% faster. Pollutants found in city air destroy proteins called keratins that protect the skin from moisture loss. However, skincare products that contain ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamin C and retinol can treat and prevent skin damage caused by environmental and lifestyle stressors.

That is why I am sharing three awesome products from DHC which I have been using to help restore my skin’s condition and care for my aging skin.

1. DHC Vitamin C Essence

According to DHC’s website, DHC Vitamin C Essence is an intensive brightening serum formulated with a highly concentrated and stable Vitamin C derivative for deeper penetration and a longer-lasting effect. This serum absorbs quickly and reduces a variety of skin troubles to bring out brighter skin. You can use it right after washing your face. Dispense 1-2 drops onto fingertips and apply over the entire face or only onto areas of concern by tapping gently. Follow with lotion. I generally use it at night and let it work its magic while I sleep!

What I like:

I consider antioxidants such as vitamin C are really beneficial for my daily beauty regime. DHC Vitamin C Essence has highly concentrated vitamin C, which regulates the formation of melanin to give radiant skin naturally. At the same time, it also tightens the pores and penetrates deeply into the source of dark spots. It is packaged in a special drop tube to help you target the areas that need it the most. A little goes a long wayIt is lightweight and can be worn under makeup. It is fragrance-free, so does not irritate my sensitive skin. I have had trouble with vitamin C in the past as it breaks me out, but not this one. 2. DHC Queen of Serum

What it is:

DHC claims that the richly textured DHC Queen of Serum is an innovative aging care serum that focuses on turning time into beauty. It is formulated with queen bee peptide (pentapeptide-48) to condition and support aging skin, which tends to lack moisture and suppleness. This formula contains royal jelly extract, a skin-conditioning ingredient that is rich in amino acids; hydrolyzed conchiolin protein; and 14 components of a natural moisturizing factor that holds moisture in and acts as an amino acid injector to impart a brighter and more hydrated complexion that glows. Also formulated with multiple beauty essences to address concerns of aging skin: vitamin A (retinol), which is an essential ingredient for a firm, elastic skin; triple moisturizer (ectoin), which deeply moisturizes; and hydroxyethyl urea, polyquaternium-51, and other essences for intensive hydration and to help reduce visible fine lines caused by dryness.* This serum, uncompromisingly developed with a focus on ingredients, technology, and texture, is especially recommended for aging skin. No added colorants or parabens.

*Efficacy evaluation tested.

How to use:

Dispense an amount about the size of a pearl (2–3 pumps) into palms and apply evenly over face after lotion and before moisturizer.

What I like:

It is a very luxurious serum with a rich jelly-like smooth texture that gets absorbed nicely into the skin, leaving it beautiful, smooth, and hydrated. It has a lovely, feminine floral scent. I love products that are innovative and this product ticks all the boxes. Queen bee peptide or pentapeptide-48 in this serum is very close to the active part of royalactin. Just for your information, royalactin is an essential ingredient for a bee to become a queen bee which is included in royal jelly and is extremely rare. Queen bee peptide contributes to more than 600 kinds of genes to promote both the cycle of breaking down the excessive waste in your skin and regenerating your skin. I believe that it is taking care of my skin against aging as I see some positive difference in my skin and a little glow since I started using it. My skin looks more hydrated and firmer, thanks to amino acids and vitamin A respectively!
