Come autumn, the international editions of Vogue host FNO – Fashion’s Night Out events across 14 markets countries. Vogue Fashion’s Night Out events for 2018 will be hosted in Australia, China, Japan, Russia, and Spain, in a total of 14 cities. Vogue’s FNO was held on September 15 in my city Tokyo; will be held today in Kobe on September 22, Nagoya on October 27, and Osaka on November 17 and 18. This was the 10th anniversary of FNO in Tokyo.

Fashion’s Night Out was created in 2009 in countries where Vogue magazines are issued to restore consumer confidence and to boost and energize the fashion industry’s economy, and since then this unique event has inspired thousands of shoppers around the world to participate. The goal of this initiative is to encourage the public to celebrate and support the fashion world, so only events that are open to the public can be promoted as official VFNO events.

Vogue magazine holds their annual event ‘Fashion’s Night Out’ in and around the Omotesando-Aoyama-Harajuku area in Tokyo. These high-end districts are packed with shoppers dying to get a glimpse of designers and models. There is excitement in stores, as well as excited fashionably dressed crowd on the streets. There are many participating stores with special events, exclusive items and probably some free canapes!

Festivities kick off with an opening ceremony around 4 pm and end with a closing ceremony at 9.30pm. Entrance is free.

All the products on sale are from famous fashion and beauty brands and are sold at the fraction of the original price. There are some limited products unique to fashion night out and I picked up an original badge from the Vogue booth. A part of the proceeds went to the charity work centered on activities in support of ongoing recovery and reconstruction effort following the Great East Japan Earthquake through Children Without Borders (KnK) – a great way to use fashion to do something good!

As it was my third time going to FNO, I knew what to expect. I had checked out the FNO website and saw the special items that were for sale but hadn’t really given any attention on who would be visiting or performing. I went there at 6 pm which I think was good to time to see glamorous Tokyo crowd out in the well-lit Omotesando streets. We were able to get some freebies and a lot of free drinks and champagne. There was a DJ playing and later I was able to catch Rola unveiling Bulgari’s new bag collection. We also saw the famous model Mika Ahn checking out the stores at Omotesando Hills. There were long queues to get samples, or free drinks or even to get clicked in front of photo booths. And a special mention to the gorgeous Tokyo crowd, immaculately dressed in their fashion finery!

If you are interested in fashion and freebies, make sure to deck yourself in your most stylish ensemble and hit the FNO in your city!
