Are you an afternoon tea addict? Are you a coffee lover? If yes then head over to The Peninsula Tokyo in Yurakucho for a coffee inspired afternoon tea set with delicious savory and sweet temptations to delight. The Peninsula chain is famous as a tea destination the world over, due to the iconic reputation of The Peninsula Hong Kong’s afternoon tea.

The Peninsula Tokyo has an afternoon tea which is held in their lobby under the Peninsula’s iconic firework-inspired crystal chandelier. But while checking their website I came across this special coffee high tea for a limited period and the best part is that it is held in Peter: The Bar – talk about killing two birds with one stone! Offering breathtaking 360 degree views of Tokyo’s Imperial Palace Gardens and Hibiya Park, Peter: The Bar on the 24th, has a cool and modern interior done in dark purple hues, with glimmering chrome trees and pod-shaped futuristic sofa seating. But honestly I am not a fan of their pod style sofas specially since our seats were two sofas placed next to each other instead of being across from each other. It was difficult to have a conversation or even share food!

As this was a coffee focused afternoon tea they first offered us a selection of coffee, but me not being in a mood to take any risks opted for café mocha and then café latte. This was followed by 5 kinds of finger sandwiches including Fried Pasta and Turkey Salad Sandwich with Cocoa-Coffee Bread. They were kind enough to change two of our sandwiches which had fish to something else as I am allergic to fish!
Next they served us desserts and scones in their silver leaf shaped tray. Their scones were seriously the softest and most buttery, served with The Peninsula Clotted Cream and Peter Jam which is some kind of raspberry jam. They also served Salted Caramel Tart with Espresso Syrup, Banana and Hazelnut Mousse, Honey Panna Cotta & Coffee Jelly. But my favourite has to be Raspberry and Chocolate Cake! They were seriously to die for!

Generally after any afternoon tea I get sick of eating, but this afternoon tea surely left me satisfied but not full. We actually shared, but I think I could have finished everything on my own!
As for my verdict, I think Peninsula Tokyo’s afternoon tea is good but nothing great. Their selection is not being very extensive like here or here. Considering Peninsula, I had very high expectations. However, these kinds of desserts are easily available in any cake shop. But I guess all that matters is having afternoon tea in a swanky setting and feeling all sophisticated and chic!
