When the temperature reaches a zero it can be tempting to forget all fashion trends and shift to cosy knits and quilted jackets. However, it doesn’t have to be that way! Sumptuous winter florals are one of the season’s hottest trends and are a great way to give your winter wardrobe a lift. Honestly, it is one of my favorite winter fashion trends – it basically means that I can wear my summer pieces layered with tights and a leather jacket!

I was not a huge fan of floral prints in winter, but there is something about print in dark, wintry tones that changed my mind! The new fashion rule is that you can wear florals all year-round. When set against a dark canvas, a la Giambattista Valli or Dolce & Gabbana, the traditional spring time print feels as cool as the drop in temperature outside. It’s darker, moodier, and edgier, yes, but it also plays up the color contrast, which achieves a graphic, eye-popping effect. And as days become shorter and gloomier, this is the easiest and the most stylish remedy to chase away the cold season blues!

The street style brigade is also getting on board, working out new ways to wear the pattern for winter. Winter blooms, often set against a background of black or metallic, are any fashionista’s wardrobe staple. You can style a dress with a black leather jacket and, and when it gets unbearably cold, with a puffer jacket and some heavy-duty winter boots. Pair them with winter fabrics or clash them with traditional winter plaids, either way is equally cool. You can either wear floral head-to-toe, or keep it minimal with a bag. A floral dress worn with tights, simple black court shoes and a bold lip colour is perfect for any winter party. Not to forget, you’ll be in good company with stylish celebrities such as Alexa Chung and Taylor Swift.

Florals will be an obvious choice come spring, but I prefer to keep abusing them all year round! Winter doesn’t have to be dreadful when there’s the hope of floral pieces to revive your wardrobe.

After all, flowers are just the right remedy for the gloomy season, or just any season!
