We stopped in Hong Kong for a few days on our way to India in October. We stayed at the newly constructed Mira Hotel on Nathan Road in Tsim Tsa Tsui. Although it was a short trip we managed to squeeze in a lot of fun stuff. So, I thought why not make a post on things to do in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is one of those cities I would definitely like to re-visit. The feel is very international with a lot of foreigners which was definitely very refreshing (unlike Japan where the dearth of foreigners has made “Gaijin nod” so very common for me. For those who don’t know..A gaijin nod is a nod between two foreigners who randomly pass each other on the street in Japan. Although they don’t know each other, their common feeling of being an alien in Japan triggers the mutual need of performing the nod).
So the first day after checking in we strolled around in the Tsim Tsa Tsui area which is the main shopping district in Kowloon Island. Miramall was just across the hotel so we had a quick lunch of crispy chicken with classic rock sauce and chicken quesadilla. After that we went to the harbour to catch “A Symphony of Lights” which is a synchronised building exterior decorative light and laser multimedia display, featuring 44 buildings on both sides of the Victoria Harbour of Hong Kong accompanied by music. Honestly it was great for 10 minutes but after that we got bored and roamed around in the harbour area which is home to a lot of shopping malls like Harbour City, Festival walk and 1881 Heritage. Came back to the hotel for a drink or two at Vibes which is an open-air lounge bar popular among the ” IT ” crowd of the city. We were too tired to go out again for dinner so ended up ordering room service. And I called it a day with the famous Hong Kong dish of Hainan chicken with rice..
