My interest with Ajisai seems to be growing into an obsession, gosh I love these flowers … and my dear readers here’s another set of pics showcasing the beauty of Ajisai … due apologies to those who feel its been an overdose of ajisai … the rainy season is going to end & it’s getting much too hot to venture out … so what better way than to bid adieu to my fav flower, than by visiting the Yatadera Temple in Nara, Japan famous for its Ajisai garden. So famous that, it is also known as Ajisan-ji because …. hold your breath … there are over 10,000 flowers! It is home to over 60 different species of Hydrangea planted here…. Ajisai Paradise!!

About Yatadera Temple:
Yatadera Temple is about 3.5 kms from Koriyama on Yata Hills. It is the second best spot to see Ajisai in western Japan after Kobe’s Shinrin Botanical Garden. Yatadera was founded by the order of emperor Tenmu in 679.

How to go there:
You can take Kintetsu Line to Kintetsu Koriyama station or JR Yamato-ji line to JR Koriyama station. In Hydrangea season there are special buses available between Koriyama station and the temple. However, I didn’t find any such bus! On my way going to the temple, I just took a taxi and it cost around 2000 Yen. On my way back, I just had to walk back as it is in the middle of no where and there were no signs of a taxi or bus. Luckily, I came across this small Japanese shop with an old Japanese couple. When I asked them about taxi stand, they offered to call a taxi.  Why couldn’t I call a taxi before? Well, my Japanese is not good enough! It’s a big deal if I can even buy eggs!

When to  go there:
It is best to go there during Rainy season, during the first and second week of July when Ajisai bloom.

Well, I hope you can get there this year, otherwise there is always a next time!
